This week has been something else. We had adoptions, we had TNRs, we had spays and neuters, we had an outreach event, and we met with other professionals in the animal welfare field.

After weeks of effort, the forces of the universe converged this week at City of Cameron Touch of Love and animals moved to their new homes.  Jack, our most recent Pet of the Week, went to his new home this week.

We had a generous spay sponsor who went home with a puppy from foster care:

The puppy whose spay was sponsored went to her new home, too:

Samson was given a new job by the hog hunters (he’s the sturdy fellow on the right):

On Thursday, Mark and Jean transported a load of foster dogs to Animal Birth Control Clinic in Waco. Natasha and her three puppies who still needed spaying and neutering as well as Lucky Lucy got their surgeries (Mel Brooks, the cat also got his neutering and ear-tipping done).  Natasha, her six puppies, and Lucky Lucy are all looking for their forever homes.

While Mark and Jean were in Waco, they met the ABC’s Executive Director to expand their professional knowledge. You may we call Mark, Jean, and Sue Ann met with the Executive Director of Aggieland Humane Society last week. We know we’re somewhat new to this business, so we’re in the process of learning what we don’t know that we don’t know.  Both these visits have been professionally fruitful. We have a few more planned, and we are looking forward to them.  We want the best for Milam County, so learning from others should help us devise the best way to deliver what the county needs with less growing pains.

Someone in town borrowed our traps last week and took it upon themselves to Trap, Neuter, and Return some kitties in their yard. We are grateful they were willing to do the legwork, and we were happy to help with loaning them the traps. Milam Touch of Love has up to five traps available to loan. We will charge a small, refundable deposit (to cover the cost of replacing a trap if it does not return) and would appreciate a small donation toward helping us purchase more traps for our trap library to enable us to expand our TNR program. (We also have traps on our Amazon Wishlist)

Lastly, we closed the week at our monthly event at the Amazing Grace Thrift Shop in Buckholts. The ladies that run this thrift shop do a marvelous job of providing a pleasing environment for shopping, and they are always running some great specials. They graciously invited us to join them on the first Saturday of each month, and we have a great time offering jewelry at great prices, delicious homemade baked goods, and talking about Milam County Animals with people when they come in (don’t worry, we’re not hunting you. We can usually tell if you don’t care to talk to us, and we let you shop.)

In addition to all this, we watched quite a few rehomings take place in the group and animals got lost and reunited with their worried owners. In one case, a pup got fostered and found a great forever home, and another one who needed an emergency place to go by this weekend got into a foster.  Whew!

What a week, eh? Oh, by the way! Come see us and the Rockdale Shelter at the Belton Adoption Event on Saturday, September 14, 2019, at the Belton Expo Center. Rockdale has a booth reserved. Janiece is bringing beautiful dogs from the Rockdale Shelter. Milam Touch of Love is bringing Natasha and her six  puppies, Lucky Lucy, Big Boy, and Gracie’s four kittens. All the dogs are fully vetted (spayed, neutered, vaccinations, heartworm negative), and the kittens have their first set of kitten shots.

Additionally, we should be making another Emancipet run on Saturday the 14th, which means a few more Milam County animals will be spayed and neutered. Hearty thanks to Amanda and the people who will help her this month for making this happen.
