This past week has been a busy and productive one for Milam Touch of Love. We did our second Trap, Neuter, and Return session. Three kitties, a momma with an eye problem and her two kittens. We took these to Dr. Amy so momma could get her eye looked at while she was under anestesia. She received heavy duty antibiotics, and she should be doing better. Yes, you see two carriers there, not traps. What’s up with that? It turns out the kittens were comfortable enough with their caretaker that after they found ways to not go into the traps, I decided to see if we could get them with a carrier. They were curious, and their caretaker scooped them up, and we closed the lid on them in the carrier. Momma might have been tame enough for that too, but I only brought two carriers to the trapping session. Everyone did well in their surgeries and was returned home after about 18 hours in good shape.
We had two big events on Saturday. One was the monthly run to Emancipet in Pflugerville for spaying, neutering, and shots. Six animals (5 dogs and cat) were able to be spayed or neutered and got their vaccinations and microchips thanks to Amanda and Sandra who transported and shepherded them through the process.
The other big event was Rescue Magazine’s 4th Annual Pet Adoption Extravaganza at the Belton Expo Center on Saturday. What a treat it was to be able to participate in this event. The event organizers thoughtfully put our booth and Rockdale ACO’s booth back to back, and we were able to support one another. Rockdale’s inital load of six dogs was scooped up and adopted almost immediately. Janiece returned to the shelter and brought five more dogs back with her, and one of those got adopted for seven total adoptions for Rockdale at the event. Wow!
Milam Touch of Love brought seven dogs and four kittens. Five of our dogs (Natasha and her puppies, below on right) got adopted. Big Boy, the dog pictured in the crate above, came home with us. Maybe he was too laid back? Maybe people didn’t realize what a ham he is becuase they haven’t seen this photo of him in a carseat? Big Boy is in a great foster home, but he needs a family to call his own. Fifi seemed like she almost had a home at least twice, but, alas, it wasn’t meant to be for her either. The four kittens, 13 weeks old and so ready for their forever homes, got some attention in the afternoon, but their people weren’t at this event either.
We received several much appreciated donations this week earmarked for our spay and neuter and our TNR programs as well as a timely donation to benefit the City of Cameron Touch of Love. Thank you to our generous and caring donors. You allow us to do good things for Milam County Animals.
