NOTE: We are pleased to be included in The Cameron Herald. This helps with our community outreach and education efforts, and we are thank publisher Lindsey Vaculin for generously allowing us space. Here’s our first column:
Hello! For those who know us, good to see you again. For those meeting us for the first time, nice to meet you! Milam Touch of Love, or MTOL as we are affectionately known, plans to do a weekly column to update you on what we have going on, to talk about pet ownership, and to introduce you to ways you can help if you are so inclined.
Let’s talk about where we came from. We formed from a group that came together through the former City of Cameron Touch of Love Facebook Group, founded by City of Cameron Animal Control Officer, Sandra Ritch, as a place where city and county members could post about lost and found dogs and cats (and other animals, sometimes) to help get them back to their people.
At our organizational meeting in March 2019, we decided on our mission and vision statements, agreed to a name, and elected a Board of Directors. From that point, the Board formed Milam Touch of Love as a legal entity in Texas and obtained 501( c) (3) recognition from the Internal Revenue Service. Sandra turned her Facebook group over to us, and we renamed it Milam Touch of Love to be more inclusive of Milam County.
We have many programs, but we’re primarily focusing on obtaining low-cost spay and neuter opportunities for Milam County residents. In future weeks, we’ll talk about our programs as well as present information to help everyone be a better-informed pet parent.
