Have you ever been concerned that maybe a dog won’t be a good fit for your family, so you decide not to get one? Please ask about the shelter’s Foster-to-Adopt program. In Cameron, the shelter uses this program to accomplish two main purposes.
First, the shelter wants to make sure you and the dog are a good fit. The best way to do that is by spending time together in your home. If it isn’t a good fit, you can return the dog with confidence that you’re doing the right thing for you and the dog. If everything works out, you can adopt with confidence.
Second, the shelter wants to make sure Milam Touch of Love has been able to complete all the basic veterinary care the dog needs — rabies shot, spaying or neutering, microchip, and heartworm test.
Once we know the dog is a good fit with your family and basic vetting is complete, the adoption can be finalized. Once the pup is yours, we highly recommend taking him or her to your own veterinarian for a wellness visit. This way, your vet gets to know your pet on good terms and can identify any problems our basic vetting was not able to cover. (If we know, we’ll tell you, but we don’t always know.)
