As an all-volunteer organization with limited volunteers, we work one event at a time. Please do not ask to register for future events. Dates and locations for events are subject to change based on weather or availability of venue or veterinary staff.
This post includes details about registering for Milam Touch of Love events and pricing as well as answers to frequently asked questions.
On registration day:
- Early (6 am) on the day registration opens find the registration post.
- Refresh your screen. If registration is still open, a registration form for that event will be embedded in the post.
- Please register each pet individually (yes, if you have four animals, you need to fill the form out and submit it four times).
- Once registration is full, we will update the post title with closed and remove the registration form. If your registration is received more than a few minutes after we close registration, you will be notified that your registration wasn’t received in time to be included — this is due to the event being full and not having any more slots for your pet to be included.
- A day or two before the event, you will receive a text or email with pre-op instructions and drop off time.
CITY PROGRAMS
Milano and Thorndale residents who reside inside city limits, your city has budgeted for you to receive the basic spay/neuter package for free. We will check addresses and automatically ensure you are covered.
Milano residents, your city will also pay for one wellness package per pet per year. This package includes rabies vaccination booster, distemper or FVRCP vaccination, one topical flea treatment, heartworm test for dogs over six months, and dewormer–if you are registering for a snip and chip event, you may select these optional items at the time of registration, and the city will cover them.
COUNTY PROGRAMS
Milam County Grant: County residents who choose this option (when available) receive a $60 credit for the basic package for dogs and female cats and a $40 credit for male cats and barn cats.
If none of the above programs allow you to get your pets spayed or neutered, please contact us privately. We are doing everything we can to ensure finances are not the reason you can’t spay or neuter your pets.
When you do contact us, please be as specific as possible about what you need — do you need help catching cats, do they need transportation to the event, do you need financial assistance (partly or complete), etc. Every dollar you are able to contribute, even if it isn’t the full amount, allows us to help someone else.
TYPES OF EVENTS
Wellness Day: Held monthly in various locations around the county, usually on the first Wednesday of each month. This is a walk-in clinic. No reservations are required. No surgeries are performed. This event is for clinic-type services — vaccinations, nail trims, exams, evaluating health concerns, or medication refills.
Barn Cat/Porch Day: Typically held on the second Wednesday of each month in Milano or Cameron. This event is for spaying or neutering non-pet or porch cats who may be indoor-outdoor cats. An ear-tip is mandatory — this easily identifies a cat as being spayed or neutered and can save them from future trauma of trapping or unnecessary surgery. All cats will receive a rabies vaccination, injected pain medication, and injected antibiotics. In a tiered pricing system, these are the lowest levels of service. Please do not schedule your indoor pet cat for this event. An exception is if you have a litter of kittens and need to get them all spayed or neutered– it is acceptable to schedule the entire litter and the mama cat. If you select the Porch Cat option (additional charge), your cat will receive a documented rabies vaccination and a microchip with registration and transfer. NOTE: Porch Cat option is a test program whose options may change.
Snip and Chip: Typically held on the 4th Wednesday of the month (adjusted for holidays), this event is geared toward pet dogs and cats and represents the second service tier.
Dogs receive: Spay or neuter with injected pain medication and antibiotics, documented rabies vaccination, heartworm test for dogs over six months of age, microchip with registration and transfer, and CBC blood work.
Cats receive: Spay or neuter with injected pain medication and antibiotics, documented rabies vaccination, microchip with registration and transfer, and CBC blood work.
Other services available at additional cost: additional vaccinations, nail trim, Bravecto, or deworming medication.
SPAY/NEUTER COST:
Dogs and Female Cats: $130
Male Cats: $80
Porch Cats (on Barn Cat Day): $70
Barn Cat Day: $55
I couldn’t find where to register for snip & chip day or barn cat. I’m needing my male neuter and flea medication.
Registration only opens on the scheduled day associated with each event. Please come back on that day.
Happy New Year Jean and the wonderful team at MTOL!
So a new feral stray female has popped up and she is locked in my feed room until barn cat day! Of course she’s in heat right now and maybe between now and the barn cat day she will be a little less feral, fingers crossed.
